Analysis

The legitimate @ornikar/browserslist-config npm package was compromised via account takeover. Version 8.0.8 contains a preinstall hook (setup.mjs) that downloads the Bun JavaScript runtime binary from github[.]com/oven-sh/bun/releases and uses it to execute a 727KB heavily obfuscated payload (math_init.js) at install time. The payload is a large obfuscated Bun bundle containing eval, Function constructor, and child_process calls. The package's legitimate purpose is exporting browserlist configuration strings; the preinstall hook and bundled obfuscated binary are entirely unrelated to its declared functionality.
