twork-mf-sandbox@20.9.7
Malicious code in twork-mf-sandbox (npm)
Analysis
When required, the package silently downloads a platform-specific binary from Cloudflare Workers C2 infrastructure and executes it as a detached background process. The C2 hosts are oob-worker[.]cf101-adf[.]workers[.]dev, oob-worker[.]cf99-9b3[.]workers[.]dev, oob-worker[.]cf100-416[.]workers[.]dev, and oob-worker[.]cf103-070[.]workers[.]dev, all serving the path /pkg/package (or platform-specific variants: /pkg/package-arm64, /pkg/loader_mac, /pkg/package.exe). A DNS-based fallback channel uses TXT record queries to c[.]tin[.]dl[.]well1[.]site to reconstruct a base64-encoded payload. The downloaded binary is written to /var/tmp/.cache_<hex> (Linux/macOS) or %TEMP%\dotnet_diag_<hex>.exe (Windows) and launched as a detached background process via /bin/sh -c or cmd.exe /c start /b. The package claims to be a "database access layer" but contains no database code — only the dropper in _bridge.js, which is loaded automatically by index.js.
