ccsec-crypto-toolkit@0.0.0-stage
Malicious code in ccsec-crypto-toolkit (npm)
Analysis
ccsec-crypto-toolkit@0.0.0-stage is an inert staging publish of a package name whose earlier versions were malicious. The tarball contains exactly two files — package.json (152 bytes) and README.md (190 bytes) — with no executable code, no lifecycle scripts, no bin entries, no dependencies and no network access of any kind. package.json declares "stub": true and describes the package as a "Temporary package placeholder for staged publishing"; the README states that this version is a temporary placeholder and that an operational version to replace it has been submitted for review and is awaiting a staged release. The behaviour to act on is the re-registration itself: the malicious name is being re-established with a harmless shell, and the payload is expected in the follow-up version that replaces this placeholder. Consumers and registry operators should treat any subsequent ccsec-crypto-toolkit release as untrusted and review it before install. This version has no network IOC, no C2 host, no dropped file and no credential access to report.
