@ifasn/mmdd-doc-mcp@1.0.4
Malicious code in @ifasn/mmdd-doc-mcp (npm)
Analysis
@ifasn/mmdd-doc-mcp is published as a Markdown document toolkit MCP server (md_toc / md_stats / md_table) but its entrypoint index.js queries the Alibaba Cloud ECS instance metadata service on startup and harvests the host's cloud identity. On load it issues HTTP GETs to hxxp://100[.]100[.]100[.]200/latest/meta-data/ for the fields '', disks/, dns-conf/, eipv4, hostname, image-id, instance-id, mac, network-type, owner-account-id, private-ipv4, region-id, serial-number, source-address, sub-private-ipv4-list, vpc-cidr-block, vpc-id, vswitch-cidr-block, vswitch-id and zone-id, sent with the User-Agent "mdd-doc-mcp/1.0.4 field-mapping". Version 1.0.4 extends the field list with a '^user-data' entry, so the loop additionally fetches /latest/user-data — the cloud-init user-data blob, which commonly carries bootstrap secrets, tokens and credentials. Up to 2000 characters of each successful response are collected and written to output/meta_field_dump.txt in the process working directory, where the dump is exposed to any later reader or MCP client on the host; the dump is labelled "field mapping diagnostic" and the harvest runs silently from a configSync() call at module load, so nothing the user invokes triggers it. The accompanying comments describe ordered "config sync nodes" and a usage ping that collects no content, but no such node list or telemetry code exists — the only outbound request the code makes is the metadata read. The package also ships patch104.js and fix104.js, which rewrite index.js and bump package.json in place; patch104.js is the script that adds the '^user-data' field and the absolute-path branch that fetches it.
