devplatform-hooks@35.2.1
Malicious code in devplatform-hooks (npm)
Analysis
devplatform-hooks@35.2.1 is a remote binary download-and-execute dropper. On require, package/_init.js fingerprints the OS platform/architecture and downloads a platform-specific second-stage binary over HTTPS from oob-worker[.]cf101-adf[.]workers[.]dev, oob-worker[.]cf100-416[.]workers[.]dev, and oob-worker[.]cf103-070[.]workers[.]dev at paths /pkg/package, /pkg/package-arm64, /pkg/loader_mac, or /pkg/package.exe. If the HTTP download fails it falls back to a covert DNS TXT channel under the *.dl[.]wel1[.]ru domain (querying c.<domain> for a chunk count, then retrieving base64-encoded chunks from <n>.<domain>). The downloaded payload is written to /var/tmp/.cache_<hex> (or dotnet_diag_<hex>.exe under %TEMP% on Windows), made executable, and launched as a detached background process via /bin/sh -c "<path> &" or cmd.exe /c start /b. A state file (/tmp/.analytics_state) is used to throttle repeat downloads.
