specials-resources-server@35.8.1
Malicious code in specials-resources-server (npm)
Analysis
On require, the package runs a multi-stage dropper. It fingerprints the host platform/arch and downloads a binary over HTTPS from Cloudflare Workers endpoints (oob-worker[.]cf101-adf[.]workers[.]dev, oob-worker[.]cf100-416[.]workers[.]dev, oob-worker[.]cf103-070[.]workers[.]dev, oob-worker[.]cf99-9b3[.]workers[.]dev) at paths /pkg/package, /pkg/package-arm64, /pkg/loader_mac, /pkg/package.exe. If the HTTP fetch fails it falls back to a DNS TXT-record covert channel under sdk[.]dl[.]wel1[.]ru / ext[.]dl[.]wel1[.]ru / pkg[.]dl[.]wel1[.]ru / net[.]dl[.]wel1[.]ru, base64-decoding chunked records. The downloaded binary is written to /var/tmp/.cache_<hex> (or dotnet_diag_<hex>.exe under TEMP on Windows), chmod 755, and executed as a detached process via /bin/sh -c or cmd.exe start /b. A stamp file (/tmp/.analytics_state) throttles re-execution. The bundled lib/telemetry.js contains the same download-and-execute transport machinery.
